A Reader Responds to ZUMA "DEMING" DOGG

Sometimes I think you and I are the only two in the state who know and understand Dr. Deming. He made Japan the successful business country it is, when our own country didnt listen to him and still doesnt. Many companies followed his teachings in the 60's, 70's and 80's and achieved many great things. But no more. We now have more chiefs than indians, and no one who wants to be responsible. One thing I learned from Dr. Deming..."Even if you guess, you have a 50% chance of being right.... and only a 50% chance of being wrong" Doing something is the key to success.

10:21am,

Wow, glad to hear you know about Deming. How do you think I am representing his work? I mean, do you recognize the language and tone when I slip into Deming speech. (HATERS, STOP READING HERE.)

It's hilarious, cause there's that certain "persona" he brings to his material that I try and represent, the way Rich Little is trying to do an impersonation. And that's why people have responded to my material. Cause I try and capture his "tone" as well. And the guy is this clam, slow, quiet guy...but is more bitter and scroning than Zuma Dogg. He just breaks it down into a system that he can use to "scold your ass" with. The dryest, most sarcastic humor ever. (WHY DO YOU THINK ZD WAS ATTRACTED TO DEMING?) BUT BESIDES THAT (cause I'm already in way to much trouble for saying that much):

He DOES want you to make decisions and take action -- innovate. Not just stand still and let market conditions controll your future.

But I wouldn't want Antonio of anyone to just go out there and start taking action based on statistically incorrect info. (Like making the DWP brush clearing deadline when windy season is OVER, instead of just before -- and additionally, as needed, on a common sense basis, to save lives and land.)

So that's where Deming's system of 14 Points provides the system that allows you to use statistics and pyschology to help let you know exactly where you stand (what previous effort has produced what results), so you can make needed adjustments in the system, to constantly improve and innovate, to drive down total cost, improve efficiency, reduce waste, help save land and lives, and help us start to COMPETE in this global econony, instead of simply letting international market conditions control us.
